iPhone 13 Pro Max vs Pro Video Camera | ProRes and Cinematic Mode

– All right so today “were having” the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Now every generation, the camera seems to be getting better and better. But what recently came out is the ability to shoot in ProRes. I think what you’re lookingat is the fast shutter speed, which is correct. Cause the professional camera, the screen rushes locked inthe iPhone is kind of merely doing whatever. That’s iPhone. – The biggest giveaway here isthat little common lens flare you find over Carrie’s jacket right there. Now the reason why that flareis mounting around like that is because the camera isstabilizing the image, but it can’t stabilize the flare. Professional, professional? – Were you expecting it to be this hard to tell the difference? – I predicts nothing, No – Oh, I intend, I knew they were comingout with better cameras. I just like, oh, so we’re basicallyalmost at the same level unless you knew what you’re looking for. – but it is case by event. So we will try out a few more situations where the difference might be more obvious or maybe not as different as we felt. Like the iPhone is technicallygreat for what it can do, but when it comes to the lens options, you’re rather limited tolowlight concerts rate on 1x lense but if you go into theAltro wide or telephoto, immediately, see it’s not almost a good.- Now on a pro camera choosing the right lens is everything. And it’s not like there’s the most wonderful lens. That’s perfect for everything. It’s kind of like musical instruments. You know, it’s not like one instrumentis superior to all others, even if they are the buster with the guitar is always getting all the chicks. And the chap at the clarinets over there, just like, “what the hell, dude, ” I’m a forte-piano player myself. I was kind of forced into it, but you probably already knew that. So far everything we’veshot on this iPhone has been in proRes 422 HQ, which is a Kodak or basically a type of compression. So you shoot somethingwith your lens and sensor. And that enter does compresseddown to smaller file sizes like HD 64 are small and it looks pretty good.HD 65 is even more contracted, but the goal is to maintaina good gazing portrait with small-minded file sizes. proRes On the other hand, it’s just like a slight, it’s scarcely squeezed. It’s visually lossless, which means massive file sizes, but you maintain all those items. Is it worth shooting inprogress on the iPhone? I would say most of the time , no, because you could have a file size. That’s a fraction of the sizeand pretty much get a very similar search image. I would be more interested in this proRes’ if there was an optionto shoot a log format, so I can color tier it somewhat heavily. But right now I don’t seeany options like that. Even in filmic pro, there’s no option to go flat. The basic codex seems to bepretty good previously until you switch over to a slow motion.That’s where I feel like thecodec really has a hard time staying together andkeeping that tone up. So if there was a way toput slow-mo in proRes, that would be awesome. But I just think the phonecan’t really handle that crusade that’s a lot of data to process very fast, but it is nice knowing that there is proRes available in now, extremely if that’s thecodec we want our workflow to be in. And also if I’m just tryingto get the best possible image out of this camera possible, then that’s how you would do it, at the cost of big documents. I have some cinema lensesthat open up to T 1.5 and cinematic procedure on the iPhone is supposed to digitally emulate it. So we’ll be seen to what extent these two compare.( upbeat music) What’s interesting about this is that this is kind of like real degree of discipline versusfake extent of field.Now we’ve had phony depthof domain in biography mode and stills for a while now, but we’re starting tofinally see it in video and it’s not quite there yet. You could obviously look at it and see that there’s like a glow going on around the edges. It’s not a perfect cutout. What do you think? It’s close, but yeah, I don’t know, what the glow thing you’re talking about. It simply stands out so much. – Yeah. It’s like not a perfect out. I don’t know how they makecinematic mode gapes so good in the apple commercials, but in real world use, it looks like this more often.And they’re certainly onthe right track though. Sometimes it’s not bad at all. Like this shot here, it’s almost convincing. Like it takes me a second to see for sure if it’s real or counterfeit. But formerly you look at it close enough, it comes a little bit more obvious, but I don’t know. I convey, it’s getting there. – I feel it searches a lot more vibrant. – Yeah. The color? Well, that is the color grade. So we can of course take theC7 and adjust the pigments and saturation and all that. There’s a couple of timeswhere I missed focus. Right? I couldn’t move you. With an iPhone, You can actually adjust wherethe focus vanishes afterwards. Cause it has that LIDAR depth information. But lover, I love your dance though. Where’d learn those moves, man? – I just made it up on my own.At my own subconsciou. – One of these days, we’re going to make an episode like this, but we’re not going to evenbe able to tell the difference between the two or threegenerations down the line. Am I going to start being like, “I don’t know what camerathat was shot on, ” you know, especially if they utter us moreversatility on how much it’s sharpened and all that stuff. And it is getting there. The engineering is getting pretty insane. After checking out the footage, I reflect the large-scale takeawayfrom this video is that it’s all about the lenses.Like be seen to what extent I have all thatunorganized bullshit back there. And it’s all cluttered. My background doesn’t look that nice. Well there now we’re at F2 point, oh my gosh, it doesn’t gape nearlyas agitating anymore. It’s still actuallydoesn’t look that enormou. I was hoping it wouldjust like get genuinely soft. I would need to go toa prime lens for that. But anyways, I consider I is also expected to make a video where I just go into detail about lenses, trying to pick out what lenses, what to look for and all that I don’t know.
